Start Here — Your First Time in Minecraft

You bought Minecraft and want to get into Diggy. Follow these steps in order; no Minecraft experience is assumed.

You need Minecraft: Java Edition on a Microsoft account. Diggy is a NeoForge Java modpack; Bedrock Edition, console editions, and mobile editions cannot run this pack.

  1. Make sure you own Minecraft: Java Edition

    Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns or has access to Java Edition. Diggy never needs your Microsoft password or authentication token.

  2. Open a Minecraft launcher

    On Windows, the normal choice is the official Minecraft Launcher. Linux and macOS can use the official launcher path supported by Diggy. Linux and Steam Deck players can also use Prism Launcher; Diggy creates a separate Diggy instance there.

  3. Download the Diggy installer for your computer

    Go to Install Diggy. Choose the download that matches your operating system and CPU. The download cards there come from Diggy's current website data instead of this page hard-coding release filenames.

  4. Read Diggy's permission prompts

    Diggy first loads the public pack manifest. Before inspecting your computer, it asks permission to look only at the launcher/Minecraft location, Diggy's private Java runtime, an existing Diggy installation, and Diggy mod/config filenames and hashes. Applying changes is a separate approval. Declining inspection means Diggy stops without doing that inspection.

  5. Choose optional client mods

    On a fresh install, optional client choices begin unchecked. You can play Diggy without selecting them. Common choices include recipe help, an information HUD, a minimap, brightness controls, and breeding timers. See Mod Guide before choosing. Your recorded selection is preserved on later runs unless you change it.

  6. Let Diggy install or repair the pack

    Approve the shown plan if it looks right. Diggy installs the required pack files, a private Java runtime when needed, NeoForge, and the dedicated Diggy profile/instance. It verifies managed downloads with SHA-256 hashes.

  7. Open the Diggy profile or instance

    Official Minecraft Launcher: open the Java Edition area and choose the Diggy installation/profile. Prism: open the dedicated Diggy instance. A profile/instance is simply an isolated set of Minecraft version, mod-loader, game-folder, and mod settings.

  8. Join Diggy

    In Minecraft choose Multiplayer, then Add Server or Direct Connection. Enter loading… and connect. Use the address shown here rather than an old address from chat or screenshots.

  9. Know the basic controls

    Diggy also supplies missing convenience bindings without overwriting your established bindings. The current Diggy-specific defaults are listed in the FAQ.

  10. For your first few minutes

    Start small: check your inventory, look around spawn, read any posted server instructions, collect basic materials, and make sure you know how to get back before wandering far. If you installed a minimap, learn how its waypoint system works before relying on it.

  11. Learn the mods when you need them

    You do not need to learn every mod before playing. The Mod Guide keeps each mod's description, current version, official/project documentation link, Diggy-specific changes, and known keybind notes in one place.

  12. Update or repair later by running Diggy again

    Keep the installer you already downloaded. For ordinary Diggy updates, run that same stable Diggy installer/bootstrapper again. It obtains the current versioned updater engine, reads the current manifest, and compares your install with Diggy's desired state. Diggy changes only files/settings it can safely identify as Diggy-managed, preserves unrelated files and user edits, and records successful state in .diggy/state.json.

Words you will see

Mod
An add-on that changes or extends Minecraft Java Edition.
Modpack
A coordinated set of mods, versions, configuration, and loader settings meant to be played together. Diggy is a modpack.
NeoForge
The mod-loading platform Diggy uses to load its Java Edition mods.
Launcher profile / instance
A dedicated Minecraft setup. Diggy keeps its modded files separate from unrelated Minecraft setups.
JEI
Just Enough Items: an optional item and recipe viewer.
Jade
An optional information overlay that tells you what block or entity you are looking at.
Minimap
A small map shown in the game HUD. Diggy's optional minimap is Xaero's Minimap and can provide waypoints.
